Who’s the other man in this picture?
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. Spotted him in the photo right away when scanning the news and stopping by Townhall.
The story there was about an ad campaign Sen. John McCain’s liberal Democratic opponents are running that makes political hay, and a falsehood, of a statement he made. A now notorious statement because of its frequent misuse as a bludgeon.
The ads, run by the Democratic National Committee and the liberal group MoveOn.org., tie McCain to President Bush and cite McCain’s comments that there could be an American military presence in Iraq for 100 years.
“One hundred years in Iraq? And you thought no one could be worse than George Bush,” an announcer says in the most recent ad, run by MoveOn.org.
That’s certainly effective with the anti-Bush, anti-war, anti-McCain crowd. So he brought it up today at a stop in New Orleans.
“My friends, it’s a direct falsification, and I’m sorry that political campaigns have to deteriorate in this fashion,” McCain said. “Because there’s legitimate differences between myself and Senator Obama and Senator Clinton on what we should do in Iraq.”
That’s what the focus should be on, the more profound differences in the candidates’ worldviews.
Hopefully, we’ll get to that.
Meanwhile, remember the name Bobby Jindal. I think he has a promising future in American politics. But transcending politics, I believe he’s the kind of person who – beyond being a member of government -Â can be a leader.

Following Bobby Jindal from Wisconsin, I am impressed by his honesty and his faith. He is a devout Catholic and will use his faith and his remarkable intelligence to turn things around in Louisiana. Based on news reports in yesterday’s Baton Rouge “Advocate”, he is already stirring things up with the “good ol’ boys” by demanding accountability in the budget process as regards local projects. Would that Congress do the same with the earmarks hidden in the national budget!
As Jindal and his family celebrated Inauguration Day with Mass at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, I pray that through God and the intercession of the Saint of New Orleans, Bl. Francis Xavier Seelos, Jindal is successful in rebuilding Louisiana.
